[fcb-l] White Cane Sting on Miami Beach

Hi Kirk,
It happened about 4 years ago and resulted in my having to have surgery. I didn't think it was that serious at the time and am quite ashamed to confess that I didn't involve law enforcement. You live and learn. I would caution any and everyone, if, Lord forbid it ever happens to you, no matter how trivial seeming, call the police. There always needs to be an accident report. So what, you may cry in public and disgrace yourself. For heavens sake, you just got hit by a car, right? It was a right on red situation and the strange thing was that Robert and his guide dog, Harley were in front of me and had already crossed. What is it that they say about hindsight? Not quite a year later, at that same intersection which ironically has an audible pedestrian signal, Robert was struck by a car also making a right on red. He did file a report.
Be aware and take care,
Sila

Indeed this is an excellent example! Way to go Miami Beach FCB! Thank you from a pedestrian who has been struck.

David, as so many have already expressed, this was excellent. We in Daytona do this very thing in the month of October for White Cane Day, and have talked about doing it various time during the year. This is a reminder for me to get our committee together, and plan something here soon. The public needs to be educated, and obviously, this should be an ongoing thing, since doing it once or twice a year just isn't cutting it.

Thanks for sharing the video, you guys did a great job down there. Perhaps other chapters will follow suit.
