Hi Alice. What a nice post and some really nice reflections about Al and Joanie. The service was very well attended, the euligies were very good capturing everything about Al that we know him for. I'm sure he was with you as you sat eating your pastry and coffee.

Pat and Niq!

Subject: [gdum-l] Memorial service for Al

  Hi, everybody,
I left home this morning to attend the memorial service for Al. I had checked the gps for the location of the church, everything was "good to go."
Ah, but the MBTA had other plans. As I stood on the platform waiting for the blue line, they took the train entering the station out of service. Then all the loudspeakers, etc. started squawking, and the upshot was there was some live wire down somewhere, all service was interrupted, shuttle buses would be starting (but not yet, and they weren't even sure from where to where they'd be bussing), blah blah blah. The long and short of it was that I never would have made it to Watertown anywhere near 11 o'clock.
So I went across the street to the Italian bakery, had a coffee and thought about Al and how much he enriched the many lives he touched.
I'm sorry I could not be at the church with all of you, his other friends, and his family to remember him with you, but I was with you...and him...in spirit.
Alice, Tom, and Chekhov, who, as you all might remember, was always in love with Joanie and still is, I'm sure!
