Subject: i would like to introduce myself.....
Dear Carl,
I am hoping you will be able to share the attached documents with your
members, to support my efforts in getting my name out there for President of
GDUI. I have decided to run as a write in candidate, hence my request in
this regard.
I have also included my announcement below for your easy reference.
thank you in advance for your kind assistance in this matter.
Meet Albert J. Rizzi, Candidate for GDUI President
"The person who says it cannot be done shouldn't interrupt the one who is
doing it."
Elected on to the GDUI Board of Directors in 2011, Albert, a Guide Dog
Foundation Graduate, is working his first dog, Doxy, short for Doxology.
Albert lives in Bellport, Long Island and in early 2009, launched a
non-profit called My Blind Spot, located in New York City. Albert is a
staunch blindness advocate, is impressed with what GDUI and its membership
has accomplished thus far and is genuinely excited by our potential for
growth. Soon after being voted onto our Board of Directors in 2011, Albert
was appointed as Finance Chair and co-chairs the Web Subcommittee.
"While I am relatively new to the organization, I am not new to the
remarkable sense of pride and independence I have in my choice for mobility,
the guide dog. As president I will work to make sure we pay closer attention
to the mission and vision of GDUI as we work together to ensure that guide
dog users enjoy the same rights as others to travel, employment, housing,
and participation in all aspects of society."
In response to the financial solvency and fiscal responsibilities of GDUI,
Albert writes:
"I am going to be focused on creating a standard accounting procedure and
policy to all things finance. That includes current and accurate financial
reports posted on the web site for the members to access so they can help me
keep the board accountable and fiscally focused. My experience in nonprofit
management also affords me a unique perspective on fundraising and proper
attention to the same."
In order to assist him in accomplishing this, Albert holds two Master's
Degrees, one in Education and one in Administration and Supervision, both of
which lend sensitivity and financial expertise when he is elected President.
Addressing his advocacy efforts on behalf of guide dog users,, Albert has
served on the Board of his local Lion's Club for three years to date and
has just been appointed Treasurer.
"Being a Lion, our motto is we serve. That is a motto and credo I live by
every day." additionally, because of his tireless commitment to people who
are differently abled, Albert was appointed to the Disability Advisory Board
for Suffolk County in New York by Congressman Timothy Bishop and State
Legislator Jay Schniderman, taking his seat on that board in early May.
Albert rounds out his most recent Board experiences as GDUI Director by
co-chairing the website subcommittee and reports it has been one of the most
gratifying positions since his Directorship began.
Additionally, Albert worked alongside a core group of Board members to
create the current position descriptions for our officers.
In closing, when elected as GDUI President, Albert hopes to lead
responsibly, strengthen our core Mission, increase membership and advocacy
efforts, and will ensure our investments are safe.
"As your president, I will work to create a committed and dedicated team of
individuals able to lend their voices and their talents to build a stronger
membership base through fundraisers and grants. I will also be looking to
each of you for your support and involvement. I am committed to building up
our membership to rival other organizations. Our membership once was 10% of
the total guide dog user population. It will be my goal to get us back to a
meaningful size and to make GDUI the unified and committed organization
whose strength was always in its numbers."
Albert wants to hear from each and every one of you, so please read the
following information and drop him a line.
"If you would like to ask specific questions of him, Albert will be
available at the Candidate Forums being held on Wednesday, May 16 at 8 p.m.
eastern time and Saturday May 19 at 2 p.m. eastern.
Or, if you would like to speak with Albert personally, contact him at
<mailto:albert at myblindspot.org> albert at myblindspot.org his virtual door is
always open.
Peace."
