G DUI's national elections will be coming up for telephonic vote next month. I will continue to forward statements from those individuals running for GDUI national office. When the instructions for telephone voting come out I will share accordingly. Each member has a unique member number that must be used in the voting process.

First Vice President Election statement

My name is Mary Beth Randall and I am running for first vice president of GDUI.

In the twenty-first century there are still issues of discrimination
towards guide dog handlers, we as an organization need to help
educate the public and one another about who we are as individuals in
a world filled with technology and our fast paced lives.

One big issue of board business I want to follow through on is making
sure that all board members understand our constitution as well as
our committees. We all know what the committees are but it is
important to make sure that all standing rules for committees are
being followed and that things are being done by the appropriate
committee. To be a smooth running organization all board members and
committee members need to understand their role where ever they are serving.

I am proud of the fact that I have been the chair of the hand book
task force to put together clear and concise job descriptions for all
board positions and directors of the board. The task force is working
on reviewing the standing rules for all our committees which has gone
well thanks to committed committee chairs who have put together their
view of what each committee should be responsible for in GDUI as well
as the vision they all have about where they want to see our
committees working now and in the future.

There are still things to work on so I hope to continue this work so
that all committees and positions for GDUI are clear to any GDUI
member who reads these descriptions.

Since 2007 I have served on the special concerns committee, but three
years ago I took over as chair of the committee. As chair of the
committee I took on the responsibility for helping to revamp the
empathizer program that has been an important part of what we offer
to GDUI members as well as anyone else who might be in need of this
service that is available for free through GDUI.

As first vice president I want the membership to be knowledgeable
about the board and I want the membership to be able to feel free to
contact the board at any time if they have questions or if they would
like to be a part of a committee. GDUI will continue to grow and move
forward with the help of its board and membership.

As GDUI goes through many changes to the organization I hope to be a
part of helping people to embrace new board members along with
appreciating board members who have willingly served GDUI for many
years. It is important to me as we celebrate our 40th anniversary as
an affiliate that we thank all those who have helped get GDUI started
and worked so hard to bring us to where we are now.

Thank you for your consideration in voting for me as first vice president.
