Hi all,
The Issues being faced by the MBTA are symptoms of a much larger structural
crisis across the state relating to the Commonwealth's transportation
Infrastructure.
The Speaker of the House and Senate President this week were quoted as
saying that the legislature is taking a wait and see approach to what the
MBTA submits in its budget before it takes any action. The issues are
broader than the MBTA and we believe that the legislature needs to act
immediately.
I am resending the information below with regards to how to contact your
legislators. It is essential that each of you contact your legislators.
You are urged to send the BSCB position paper to your state House
Representatives and Senator. A major part of the solution is for the
legislature to act and they will only do so in response to their
constituents. You may obtain the email address and other contact information
for your legislators at
http://www.malegislature.gov/people/findmylegislator. We also encourage you
to send the paper to officials of your cities and towns. To facilitate
sending the paper, we have also attached a cover letter that you should
address appropriately and sign in addition to Bob Hachey. You may also
personalize the cover letter.
This paper has been delivered to the MBTA, Governor Deval Patrick, MassDOT
Secretary Richard Daley, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Senate President
Therese Murray along with key members of the press, and leaders in other
advocacy organizations.
The attached version of the Position Paper is formatted so that footnotes
are read easily by screen reader software. There is also a 12 point version
with footnotes that is the version that you should forward to your
legislators and others outside the blindness community and a large print 18
point version for persons with low vision who may wish to print the
document. Download links for all documents follow:

Please do not hesitate to contact David, Rick or Bob with any questions or
concerns. Again, it is crucial that each of you contact your legislators
about this matter.
Kind Regards,
