Hello Friends,
Many of you may already know this but here is an update on our friend Jim Sparks along with a request.
Jim is battling brain cancer. He has had serious and aggressive treatment, to date, it has not made a significant difference. He currently lives in North Augusta, Georgia with his wife Tiffany. One of Jim's most difficult side effects is that he has lost his memory. Bits and pieces are coming back but it has become a stressful situation for him. He has a request for all his friends and colleagues from Kentucky. He would like for you to write down some of the memories you have had with him. Perhaps you worked on a project with him that had positive or negative results, shared a good laugh with him, brainstormed a project with him, was given a work opportunity because of him, what ever it may be, he is desperate to remember. He wants to write them down so he can keep them with him.
This request is a matter of urgency, Jim may not be with us for much longer. His prognosis was 6-10 months and that was given to him in April, 2010.
This is what I'm asking, if you could write your story down and email it to me or Michael McCarty, we will get them to his wife ASAP as they arrive. Be sure to include full names and dates (best you can recall). Don't worry about spelling or format, I will take care of all of that. Michael said he would be willing to record your stories if you would like to contact him and make arrangements. jthompson at aph.org<mailto:jthompson at aph.org> or mmccarty at aph.org
I would like to have these off to him right away so I'm setting a due date of September 10, 2010. The sooner the better, if we can alleviate some of Jim' stress he will be able to live out his final days more comfortably.
Jim was a good friend to many people, this news is very sad and I appreciate very much if you would consider this request.
Best to all,
