Dear ACBI Members and Friends,

The American Council of the Blind of Indiana (ACBI) will hold its 39th
annual convention over Friday evening and Saturday, September 17-18, 2010,
at the South Bend Marriott Hotel, 123 North Saint Joseph Street and Century
Center, 120 South Saint Joseph Street in South Bend. This year's theme is
"Travelling the road of future opportunities through ACBI"

The South Bend Marriott is located at 123 North Saint Joseph Street. For
those planning to stay over Friday or Saturday nights, the room rate is
$99.00 per night, single, double, triple or quad plus 13% tax. Room
reservations must be made by 5:00 p.m. September 3rd and guaranteed with a
credit card, so please don't delay. The phone number for making hotel
reservations is 574-234-2000 or 1-800-228-9290. When making reservations,
please indicate that you are attending the ACBI convention in order to
guarantee the above rates.

The convention will convene at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. There will be a short
business meeting, mainly to receive the report of the nominating committee.
Consultant Bob Rowe will offer a survey of home-security related devices to
enable a blind person to identify visitors and screen those who may be
unwelcome``. After other presentations, the evening will be capped off by a
time set aside for games and socializing.

On Saturday, the hotel restaurant will be open for breakfast, beginning at
7:00 a.m. Convention registration will start at 8:00 a.m., with coffee and
juice available before the 9:00 a.m. business meeting, which will elect new
board members for the 2011-2013 term and consider other necessary items. We
will then present a panel of speakers, each of whom has pursued a successful
career outside so-called "Traditional" fields of employment for people who
are blind.

The convention luncheon will be served at 12:00 noon. From 11:00 a.m. to
noon, and 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., attendees will have a chance to look over some
of the latest developments in products and services for people who are blind
or visually impaired by visiting our vendors' area.

A highlight of the convention will be a 2:00 p.m. presentation by Dr. Lylas
Mogk, nationally-known ophthalmologist, who brings a wealth of information
and experience on vision-loss and the treatment of its leading causes. We
will allow plenty of time for participants' questions and discussion. At
3:45 that afternoon, Julia Studebaker, director of the personal adjustment
training program for blindness at the Association for the Disabled of
Elkhart county and a colleague will present information about their
programs. The afternoon will conclude with a brief memorial service
honoring ACBI members and friends who have passed away since the last
convention. Formal convention activities will conclude at 5:00 p.m.

To get the best prices for convention registration, please mail your
completed registration form to the address shown, postmarked on or before
September 3rd. Please review the form carefully for important information
about costs, luncheon choices and other vital details. Convention
participants are invited to consider donating a door-prize.

Come join us for our 39th annual convention, and help make it one of our
best ever! Plan to bring a friend and make new ones.

Sincerely,

ACBI Board of Directors
