Subject: Senate Hearing Scheduled for Voting Bill HB1109

            Dear Friends,

Our bill to make voting accessible has been scheduled for Monday, February 15, 10 AM, in the Capital Building, Room 130. See below for the earlier message showing details about the Bill.

We need to ask those of you who want to vote independently and privately during early voting to show your support by contacting your State Representatives and Senators and showing up at the hearing! If nothing else, call 232-9400, and 232-9600 and ask your representative and Senator be made aware of your support for this Bill.

There will be an amendment to make the Bill ineffective and useless if adopted. So we really need to let our people in the Statehouse know we support this Bill without amendments.

   Very respectfully,

   Don Lane

Dear Blind Friends,

Our efforts to make early voting accessible to all voters is working its way through the State General Assembly. This month already the House has passed its bill (HB1109) with a vote of 97 to 0! The Senate's bill (SB0146) is still in committee and is coming up for a public hearing on Monday, January 25 (this Monday) at 10 AM in Room 130 of the State House. You can help by coming and showing your support. You don't have to speak, but just your presence will help the Senators realize how much our right to an independent and private vote means to us!

I attended my first hearings last year, on a similar and unsuccessful legislation. It was an eye opener on how the making of a new law happens and very much stimulated my interest in our local Government and how much I could do to make it work better.

Greg Meyer and I plan to be there to express our interest and try to help. Please come if you can and see how it works. If you can't come, I will let you know what happened.

Very respectfully,

Don Lane
