+++ From the Editor:
Happy New Year everyone!!!
We have made it to 964 subscribers, and I hope we can double that by the end
of the year.
That would be so awesome!
Thank you all for sharing The Blind Post!
Learning new technologies can be a bit challenging on the old brain cells. I
just upgraded to an iPhone 4S, from a much older LG cell phone, and wow what
a new world. I also, recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7, on a
new computer, and that was an interesting learning process in itself. I am
so thankful that there are so many wonderful resources, on the Internet and
email lists, to assist with all of this new and incredible technology.
I am blessed to have a son that knows a lot about the new iPhone, as well as
other computer accessibility stuff, and a very wonderful husband that assist
with my PC issues.
If any of you have any favorite sites that you use to help with learning
the new iPhone or new technologies, please email them to me to include in
our Links of Interest section.
With the New Year here and in planning budgets for The Blind Post email
newsletter and the website, I need to make a request for donations and
funding. I am not very comfortable asking for this, I just want to keep
everything running smoothly. There is a cost for hosting the website and
utilizing a email service provider. Also, I pay for advertising on other
sites and venues, when and wherever I can, to bring more traffic to the
website.
I always want to keep subscriptions free.
If you would like to donate to The Blind Post’s maintenance, you can use
PayPal with the email address foodlady at theblindpost.com.
You can also send a check in the mail. Call or email me for my mailing
address:
mailto:foodlady at theblindpost.com

I am not a nonprofit, only a service, so I cannot provide a tax deductible
receipt.
I also want to encourage, if you can, placing ads over 50 words, to help pay
for this as well. Ads and announcement prices are towards the end of this
newsletter. Ads and announcements, 50 words or less, are still free, in
each 30 day period, for the site and monthly newsletter. Only one ad per
individual or organization per month for free. Any additional ads of the
same size is $5.
I can also offer sponsorships:
$25 per month buys you a 650 words or less feature on The Blind Post
Classified News page of the website, and a smaller 200 words or less
announcement or ad in another section, depending on the subject.
They will also both be included in the monthly Emailed newsletter.
Optional picture can be added with your ad, on the website, if you have them
in a jpg or gif format.
You can always email me to discuss topics and prices for sponsorships and if
it is suitable for The Blind Post.
Okay, there, I said my plea, so now let’s get on with this month’s issue of

+++ Tips & Tidbits from the Food Lady
Well it is a new year and time to reflect on the past and to look forward to
what the future may bring.
I always find myself assessing my spiritual journey, my eating habits, and
my health concerns. Oh, and of course, exercise and losing those unwanted
pounds.
I seem to get a new resolve to tackle some of the household organizing
projects and I suppose get a jump start on my spring cleaning. I am always
looking for ways to save money while I attempt to do all of this. Boy, what
a mountain, you might say. Well, if it motivates me, what the heck!
I plan on sharing with you some of the ways I find to do this, plus any
products I discover to make it easier or save me money. I am open for
suggestions too.
Oh, that reminds me, a subscriber mentioned using coupons to save money. How
do you use coupons to save you money? I am wondering if there might be a new
app for this for our smart phones.
It would be really fun if we could get a dialog going on ways to save money
with our groceries, and any other shopping, tips for cooking; as well as,
what creative ways we have for doing those housecleaning chores. Oh and even
how we get our exercise and what we use to assist us with it, or helps
motivate us to do it.
I guess I could start with what I do for exercise.
I love the Leslie Sansone walk away the pounds videos, now on DVD, to get an
overall aerobic workout also enjoy walking around my neighborhood with my
guide dog. He needs the exercise, and that motivates me to get out of the
house. I try to incorporate some errands, when I can with our outings. I
also want to get back into using my hand weights and get some strength
training. This is especially important for me as I get older to maintain my
bone density.
When it comes to diet and nutrition and how to get healthier and lower my
blood pressure, well I am discovering how I need to do this for myself.
I struggle with high blood pressure, and my doctor recently put me on a
medication to help control it. I am not a very good patient and do not like
the side-effects of medications. Well, I had to make some choices. Either
take the med and deal with it, or take control of what I eat and drink and
increase my exercise. I do not want to take the medicine any more!
I have a talking blood pressure cuff and have compared it with the one at my
doctor’ office and it is accurate. I have discovered that after I drink a
strong cup of coffee, which I use the K-cups, my blood pressure does go up.
I have cut back on my caffeine intake. I now have one cup of caffeinated
coffee and one of decaf. I also have to watch my sodium level. I have to now
choose the low-sodium chicken broths, and eliminate as many processed foods
as possible. This is a chore in itself. There are so many products that have
way too much sodium.
I am increasing my fruits and vegetable intake and making sure I take my
calcium and magnesium, and I personally have to make sure I take my D3
vitamin. I have had it tested twice in the past year and a half, and it was
too low. I also need to eat more fish which are high in omega 3s. I am
going to get a good fish oil supplement. To take too.
I am also increasing my exercise too. I need to lose some weight, which will
also decrease my blood pressure.
I suppose this is my main goal this year to get fit and trim and healthy. I
can only do this with the help of god. I have not had much success on my
own power. I have decided to be more involved with my church in service and
in participation.
Any way I am doing well for this first week of not taking my med any more
and I hope it will motivate me to continue to watch my diet and nutrition
and exercise level. I do not like taking medications that give me unwanted
side-effects. Please do not stop taking your meds, just because I have. Some
people need to stick to what their doctor prescribes. I am one of those
rebels, when it comes to medication verses diet and nutrition and doing
things the natural way. I think the doctors throw up their hands with me.
I will keep you all posted on my progress during this year.
Please, if you have any suggestions for this section or care to share a
healthy recipe or how you save money with coupons, send them to me to
include in future articles.
