The Carroll Center is currently seeking to fill the following
positions:
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION SERVICES--Full Time The Carroll
Center's
Education Services Department provides specialized services to
school
districts in Massachusetts and southern New England, from such
professionals as Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments,
Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Vision Rehabilitation
Teachers,
Low Vision Therapists, and Assistive Technology Consultants.
Approximately 300 students are served annually in both community
and
campus-based programs.
The Assistant Director of Education Services is a new position
which is
being added to address recent expansion in the department.
This is an exciting opportunity for the candidate who is seeking
to gain
supervisory and administrative experience in a well-established
and
growing special education program for students who are visually
impaired
or blind.
The Assistant Director of Education Services will assist the
Director
with implementation and oversight of both itinerant and
campus-based
programs for students between the ages of 3 and 22 years.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, reviewing
all
student referrals and applications; assigning and monitoring
teacher
caseloads; collaborating with school districts, parents and
related
professionals to develop effective and meaningful programs for
students;
overseeing curriculum development in alignment with state
frameworks;
providing professional support and technical supervision for
staff to
maintain best educational practices; contributing to the
preparation of
an annual budget; staying current in Department of Education
regulations
and standards; developing new programs and services in response
to
department growth.
Qualifications
. Minimum 6-10 years of professional experience in the
education of
students with visual impairments.
. Supervisory/administrative experience is preferred.
. Masters degree in Education of Students with Visual
Impairments or a
related field.
. Current professional licensure/certification in one
or more
of the
vision fields (e.g. TVI, COMS, CLVT, CVRT) is preferred.
. Working knowledge of state and federal special
education
mandates
and regulations.
. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
. Strong computer skills
. Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
. Willingness to travel throughout MA and southern New
England
as
needed.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR - REHABILITATION SERVICES --Full TIme The
Carroll
Center's Rehabilitation Services Department provides center-based
rehabilitation to blind and visually impaired clients ages 15 to
90+.
During the summer our staff work solely with teenagers.
Consumers come
from all over the country for specific programs lasting from 2
weeks to
6 months. Our staff of 15 professionals (nurse, psychologists,
Vision
Rehabilitation professionals) works as a team to provide
comprehensive
rehabilitation, including daily living skills, travel techniques,
information management, healthcare, counseling, job development,
low
vision
services, manual arts instruction, and much more.
This is an exciting opportunity for the candidate who is seeking
to a
new dimension to their experience-working with blind and visually
impaired consumers. It is an administrative position, working
closely
with the Rehabilitation Department Director. S/he will work
closely
with 15-20 vision rehabilitation professionals providing
comprehensive
campus-based services for approximately 15-27 clients. Specific
responsibilities
include: managing all client program flow; determining
appropriate
program and length of program for each client; meeting with each
client
weekly; meeting with clients as a group weekly; client conflict
management; running all department staff (instructors') meetings,
including evaluations; being available on-call for dorm
emergencies;
supervising report content and timeliness; monitoring class
schedule for
each client; developing new programs with staff, including summer
youth
programs; communicating with referring agencies regarding current
clients; working closely with Nurse and Psychologist/Therapist to
monitor client progress; work closely with
Admissions Coordinator to screen clients for services.
Qualifications
. Graduate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social
Work,
Nursing,
Education, or allied field required.
. 7-10 years of experience in related field required.
. Additional requirements: excellent time management
skills;
well
organized; good verbal and written communication and listening
skills;
strong problem solving skills a must;
. Microsoft Word and Excel and e-mail competency
required.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR
We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative and energetic
Recreational
Activities Coordinator for a two-month period this summer. The
full-time Coordinator will be part of a team of about thirty
Blindness
Rehabilitation professionals. The team will work with twenty
blind and
visually impaired students from around the country. Students
will
reside in our Dormitory.
Responsibilities include: Selecting and planning safe indoor and
outdoor activities for twenty students; planning and carrying out
a
weekly one-day long field trip; planning and coordinating
two-hour long
activities for small groups; maintaining attendance and
discipline
during group activities; coordinating the recreational activities
with
other staff members; coordinating transportation for the
recreational
activities; writing a summary report of planned activities.
Job Requirements: Bachelors Degree or workings towards a degree
with
experience in recreational activities, and/or overnight camp
employment,
preferably with the disabled. Work hours flexible but includes
Tuesdays
and half of Saturday. Creative adaptations of indoor and outdoor
games
to make them accessible. Coaching skills to encourage students
to
explore and build confidence. Engaged team worker. Drivers
license
required.
