Hi,
This might be slightly off topic so if you don't want to clutter up the list
with responses feel free to E-mail me at peter.bossley at gmail.com
I am considering writing a couple of different iPhone apps that could
benefit the blindness community but am interested in knowing how useful some
groups of people would find these apps. The aim here would not be to make
money so other than paying for costs of development (iPhone developer
program charges, test devices, etc) the goal would be to offer these apps at
a pretty low pricepoint. Any of you who know me or have read stuff I have
written know that I am a fan of Serotek's way of thinking on this, so I need
say no more on the cost of AT solutions. Anyway, all that to ask:
What kind of interest / value would a DAISY player be? I approached NLS
about possibly providing a NLS app for the iPhone, and unfortunitly they
were reluctant to even talk with me about it because of the complex legal
issues surrounding digital books.
Balancing these considerations is a lengthy process for me. I work
full-time and am trying to squeeze school into that as well. Application
development can be time-consuming although the iPhone may be less so given
Apple's strict control of the ecosystem. Your comments and questions are
welcome. Essentially if there is seemingly little benefit or interest in
these ideas, I won't waste any time coding them.
