OK, thanks. I guess more of a Bibliography page than anything for
information that might not be in the footnote itself at the bottom of the
page.

Yes, that is acceptable, though I wonder if what you're describing are
endnotes and not footnotes since you want a dedicated reference page at the
back of your paper. Your understanding is otherwise correct.

OK, I need to understand this, so please bear with me.
If I
Write a paper and I take information from a source, I'd like to put
footnotes with where it came from in a footnote; not a long-winded
explanation though. I want to number my footnotes. I would also like to
use the references page. My paragraphs are indented with headings centered
and main body double spaced. Does this make sense anywhere?
Thanks.

Hi Kathy,
MLA does not discourage footnotes and endnotes. The citation style does not
encourage long explanatory notes, and so footnotes and/or endnotes are used
for brief content notes or bibliographical information. Part of this also
holds true for APA.

Hi Tara,
If you aren't supposed to use footnotes, how do you mark the text your
citing? I thought you needed to use the footnote or endnote number beside
the quoted text. Whatever happened to writing a term paper the old
fashioned way!!!
Thanks,

Hello Kathy. I will try to address your question regarding MLA.
MLA discourages use of footnotes. What we have after the main paper is works
cited page. It begins on a new page and is entitled "Works Cited"
As the name suggests, this page lists the works you have cited in your
paper. You can also add works consulted page.
These different writing styles can be very confusing sometimes so a manual
is always useful. I often use google search if I have specific questions
regarding MLA. If you have more questions, please feel free to write.

Subject: [nabs] Question: Change of School/Major Likely
Hello All,
I am considering changing my major and school. As shown below, currently I
am a student of Penn Foster College which is an online school. I am
considering changing to a community college such as Brown Mackie College, in
April, 2010. My reasons for this is that online you don't get the hands-on
experience and one-on-one you get in-house (so to speak). I would be
changing to Health Care Administration instead of Health Information
Technology. I am wondering if any of you are in the field, or happen to
know other blind people who trained in that field. I can't seem to find
anyone blind so far who has trained in either field of study; so, if not,
I'll just break another barrier. Been there, done that, before in my life.
Also, can somebody perhaps explain to me about the MLA style for writing
research papers? I have the guide, but it just isn't computing for some
reason. Do you put footnotes and then type a bibliography at the end as
well or what?
Thanks for any help in advance.
