This is information on an ACB program.  While the price is steep
and I'll still be in school, this looks like an amazing
experience and I envy anyone who gets a chance to attend!

Itinerary

Saturday, April 23rd:

                        Depart on our overnight flight from the
US



Sunday, April 24th :



Morning

We arrive at Barajas Airport in Madrid and are transferred by
motor coach to
the hotel for check-in at the HOTEL CONFORTEL SUITES MADRID



The HOTEL CONFORTEL SUITES MADRID is a 4 Star hotel owned by
ONCE. The
property is fully adapted for people with visual disabilities
including

staff members who are fully trained and prepared to assist
customers with
visual and physical disabilities, Braille signs on the main
floors,
cafeteria menus in Braille, elevators labeled in Braille with
raised
lettering and sound recordings for each floor. Also, telephones
in all rooms
are adapted for people with visual impairments and in-room
toiletry items
are labeled in Braille.



Lunch:

                        At the hotel



Afternoon:

                        After lunch, we will have a neighborhood
walk to
introduce us to the area around the hotel.



                        Later in the afternoon we will have a
welcome
reception with our fellow participants and hear a program
overview and
presentation by the program staff.



Dinner

                        Welcome dinner at the hotel



Monday, April 25th:

Breakfast:

                        At the hotel



Morning:

                        Prior to our walking tour, we will have a
morning
lecture on "The Hapsburgs and the Bourbons"



                        We will experience a delightful walking
tour from
the Puerta del Sol square to the heart of old Madrid and the
Plaza Mayor, a
legacy of the Hapsburgs and considered to be the capital's finest
piece of
architecture



Lunch:

                        We will have lunch, including a hands-on
workshop
and tasting, at a local restaurant to sample typical Madrid
cuisine.



Afternoon:

                        Our afternoon is at leisure for
independent
exploration or shopping. Our group leader will be available to
offer
suggestions to anyone interested in pursuing a special interest
or item.



Dinner:

                        Our dinner is at local restaurant



Tuesday, April 26th:

Breakfast

                        At the hotel



Morning:

                        Today we will gather at ONCE
Headquarters, our
sister organization in Spain and Spain's National Organization of
the Blind.
Following a tour of their facility, we will visit ONCE's Museum
and print
facility.



                        The museum is divided into three main
areas
including a hands-on exhibit of scale models of national and
international
monuments, several rooms devoted to artistic works by the blind
and a
collection of instruments used by the blind.



Lunch:

                        Today we and ONCE members will have lunch
at ONCE
headquarters.



Afternoon:

                        In the afternoon we will travel to the
ONCE Guide
Dog Foundation outside of Madrid for a lecture and tour of the
facility.



Dinner:

                        Tonight we will have a tapas dinner with
local
community members.



Wednesday, April 27th:

Breakfast

                        At the hotel



Morning

                        Today we take a field trip to Toledo -
Spain's first
capital, known as the "Imperial City"



                        To experience the comparative religion of
Toledo, we
will visit the impressive Gothic cathedral and a local synagogue



Lunch

                        At local restaurant in Toledo



Afternoon

                        Following lunch we will return to Madrid



Dinner

                        At the hotel



Evening

                        This evening, after dinner,we will be
treated to a
performance of popular Spanish songs by La Tuna - a modern-day
troubadour
group



Thursday, April 28th:

Breakfast

                        In the hotel



Morning

                        This morning we will visit ONCE's School
for the
Blind in Madrid where we will experience the facilities, learning
models and
opportunities available to the students.



Lunch

                        At the hotel



Afternoon

                        This afternoon we will be introduced to
the art and
sound of the Spanish guitar. A local expert musician will provide
an
introduction to and demonstration of this traditional Spanish
instrument.



Dinner

                        At local restaurant



Evening

                        This evening we will attend a Flamenco
show that
illustrates the depth of Spanish culture presented through its
national
dance.



Friday, April 29th:

Breakfast

                        At the hotel



Morning

                        In anticipation of our late morning
museum visit, we
will have a presentation by a local art expert who will help us
understand
Picasso's Guernica, the most relevant work of art at the Reina
Sofía Museum.
During our visit to the museum we will see works by Picasso,
Chillida and
other relevant artists.



Lunch

                        We will share a tapas lunch with local
residents.



Afternoon

                        At leisure



Dinner

                        Dinner in hotel



Saturday, April 30th:

Breakfast

                        In the hotel



Morning

                        Visit of El Escorial, the
monastery-palace-pantheon
of Spanish monarchs, starting with Philip II, designed by the
famous Herrera
(Participants have been able to touch the scale model of the
Monastery at
ONCE's Museum)



Lunch

                        At hotel



Afternoon

                        Our afternoon is at leisure for
independent
exploration or last minute shopping. Our group leader will be
available to
offer suggestions to anyone interested in pursuing a special
interest or
item.



Dinner

                        Tonight we will share group and
individual
experiences during our farewell dinner at a local restaurant
