Sorry, I don't think I've actually answered this question yet.
Been swamped with emails. I can't remember a time when this list
was more active! Which is a fantastic thing!

I am studying to get my master's in social work at Jane Addams
College of social work at University of Illinois at Chicago. My
concentration is in mental health. I currently take classes and
have a 24 hour a week internship at a hospital providing
psychotherapy and supportive counseling.

My goal is to graduate in May and get a job somewhere in Chicago
or suburbs where I can receive supervision from an LCSW towards
licensure. I really enjoy the hospital work environment but am
certainly open to other experiences. In this economy,
particularly in Illinois, social workers can't be very picky
about where we work.

Just for anyone who doesn't know, if you receive your bachelors
in social work, your grad program can be shortened a lot since
you won't have to take the foundation classes because you
would've already had that content in undergrad. My program for
my master's is only taking me 2 semesters, some other programs
take 3.

However, having an undergrad in other fields gives you more of a
variety of backgrounds and would also be helpful when seeking a
job.

Good luck to all of you!

Hi all,
Out of curiosity, what areas of study are you undertaking. What
type of degree are you hoping to obtain?
