Kathy, if you are using MLA style, you must type an in-text citation with the author's last name and the page number in parentheses just before the period in your sentence. Then, you have a Works Cited page as the last page of your document with the title "Works Cited" centered at the top of the page. You then type each book's information using a hanging indent which you begin in MS Word by typing control T. For each new book, web page, etc. you cite, you hit enter at the end of the previous one and the first line of text of each citation will be at the margin and the rest of the lines in each citation will be indented beneath the top line.
You only need to do the control T once at the top of the citations and every time you hit enter after that to begin a new one, the text begins at the margin again. I used to just make my Works Cited page a completely separate document, print it, and add it to the end of my paper. Of course, if your instructor wants some other style of citations, this is not helpful.
Hope this helps. You can google MlA style and find lots of help on the web for how each type of source should be cited. I also have used a web site called easybib.com You can type in the title or ISBN number of a particular book, magazine article, web site URL, etc. and the cite will format the Works Cited entry for you and all you have to do is copy and paste it into your document.

I hope this helps! *smiles*
