Hi,
There are some developments out there which claims that advances in
technology would lower to cost of the braille display component (in any
notetaker device, the braille display component is the most expensive part).
The cheapest ones with the braille display (20 cells) would be PAC Mate
BX/QX Omni, but the one with the most potential at this point is Braille
Sense OnHand due to its small size. The best one I've seen for studying
would be BrailleNote Apex though, since it has Victor Reader software on it.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hmmmmmmm...I really, really, really want a notetaker but they are so
expensive and I settled for the lap top when I had my assessment for
technology equipment for college. :-( but I WILL get one soon-hopefully in
the next few months or so. :-)

Thanks. I also use a victor stream and have an older victor product; bought
it before the stream was in existence.
If you get an electronic notetaker you won't have to listen to jaws. You'll
just type your notes while listening to the professor.

Ashley,
I am useing a Victor Stream and as far as I know, there is not a limit on
bookmarks. I have put in up to 87 in one book before and still have another
90+ in another book on the same SD card. I have not mastered typing,
listening to JAWS and listening to the professor at the same time yet. One
of them HAVE to shut up!! and when I try to do this, I usually miss some
or all of the lecture. So, I now just record with the stream (which I don't
like since I cannot listen and record-it does not allow me to hear as I am
recording) or my Olympus DS 40-50 to record. I prefer the DS because I can
put in the ear jack and listen at the same time it is recording. Then I
just go back and type my notes or download the lecture to windows media
audio. I have not downloaded the new software for the Stream yet, so I am
not able to download the lectures to the computer and then go back and
listen.
Hope this helps

Hi all,
I'm in school while looking for work.
What do you use instead of highlighting and skimming?
For me I just take good notes knowing I cannot go back and read highlights.
If I really need something looked up I use a reader. I can search
electronic texts to some extend provided I write the right key words and
spell right.
I really prefer RFB though.
You can book mark stuff now a days and when I began college that did not
exist. I wonder though on Victor products if there's a limit to book marks?
