The below is an outstanding opportunity for parents, guardians,
educators and many others in the Washington Metropolitan area.
   Upcoming Seminar
   Educational Essentials for Students
who are Blind or Visually Impaired

Building a solid educational experience for students who are blind or
   visually impaired takes
teamwork, dedication and skill on the part of parents/guardians
and service providers. Knowing what students need and how to best meet
   those needs
requires parents/guardians to have essential knowledge of educational
services for the blind and visually impaired so they can participate
   fully in making decisions
for their children. This seminar is designed to help participants
determine what is essential for their children, the role of school
   services and teachers of
students with visual impairments, advocating for appropriate
services and how to support their children goals with appropriate
   options.

   Presenter: Kimberly Avila M.A., COMS
Kimberly is a mother, experienced teacher of students with visual
   impairments, Certified
Orientation and Mobility Specialist, published author, researcher,
curriculum developer and adjunct university faculty member training
   service providers for the
blind and visually impaired. She has extensive experience
working with persons who have visual impairments, from extremely
   premature infants to senior
citizens and every age in between.

Sponsor: The Northern Virginia chapter of the American Council of the
   Blind (NOVA)
   Date: Saturday, September 18, 2010
   Time: 10 A.M. -- Noon
   Location: Room 114 - St. George's church
The church is located at 915 N. Oakland Street in Arlington Virginia,
   just 2 short blocks from
the Virginia Square Metro Station on Metro's Orange Line.

There is also parking in the church's lot.

We plan to have volunteers at the Virginia Square Metro station and at
   the entrance to St.
   George's church, beginning at 9 a.m.
You may also call phone # 703 309 3730 if any assistance is needed upon
   your arrival at the church.

So that we can ensure appropriate planning, if you plan to attend,

   Subject: [leadership] Conferences and Students
   Hello Everyone:
As many of you are in the process of planning your Fall
conventions, I'd
like to pick your brains a bit about Student Membership and student
participation at your conferences. It is so very important for students
to not only get involved with NABS, a student to student group, but it
is vital to the success and future of ACB for them to have resources
through their state affiliates. Although it may seem the school years
will never end, they will. And we must strive for continuity in our
   organization.
If you are planning a conference or another activity this fall and
would
like NABS' involvement for student membership, please let me know. We
want to get involved with you and establish stronger relationships, for
the betterment of our student communities and the longevity of ACB.
   Thank you!
   Sara Conrad
