Hey folks!
Ever wanted to get involved in ACB Students? Worried about time
commitments? Face it, us college kids certainly don't have a lot of
extra free time; we know that. Committees are a great way to get
involved as they generally have flexible time commitments and small
groups of people working together on specific tasks. And I'm sure
you're all sick of hearing it by now, but it really does look good on
your resume!
We're currently looking for people to serve on one or more of our four
committees. Committee members will be expected to attend meetings via
conference call as well as work with other committee members primarily
via email to carry out tasks throughout the year. Time commitments will
range from 1-3 hours a month depending. Please see the descriptions of
each committee below. Please respond to the chair or chairs of the
committees in which you are interested no later than Aug. 27. Also feel
free to email myself at firstvicepresident.acbstudents at gmail.com with
any questions or comments.
Membership Committee (chaired by Laura Glowacki)
The membership committee is interested in increasing membership of NABS
in several ways. We want to learn what makes NABS attractive to blind
students, and we want to implement activities, increase social
networking, provide a variety of oppertunities, and work with the other
committees and members of NABS towards these ends. Please email me,
First Vice President Laura Glowacki at
firstvicepresident.acbstudents at gmail.com for more information or to join.
Fundraising Committee (chaired by Brooke Jostad)
Do you have experience with fundraising? Are you interested in gaining
experience with fundraising and fiscal responsibilities? NABS certainly
needs you! Please contact Treasurer Brook Jostad at
treasurer.acbstudents at gmail.com for more information or to join.
Convention Committee (chaired by Caitlin Lynch)
Every year, tons of blind people swoop down and invade a city somewhere
in the US for the annual ACB (American Council of the Blind) conference
and convention. NABS is an affiliate group of ACB, thus we have
representation in the form of board members and general members each
year. In 2011, it will be in Reno, Nevada! As you may imagine, being
part of such a large endeavor takes some planning. Please contact
Second Vice President Caitlin Lynch at
secondvicepresident.acbstudents at gmail.com for more information or to join.
Networking and Outreach Committee (chaired by Rose Martin)
This is a new committee focusing on social networking and marketing. Do
you have a lot of experience with facebook? Do you understand the ins
and outs of pages, groups, events, etc? Do you tweet your entire life
online? Even if you answer no to any of these questions, chances are
you'll still have quite a lot to offer this new committee. We're
looking for people who are outgoing and willing to help promote ACB
Students. Please contact the committee chair Secretary Rose Martin at
secretary.acbstudents at gmail.com for more information or to join.
Thanks, and have a great weekend everyone!
Laura Glowacki
