During my high school days, back in the 90's, I used a Perkins braille writer.

Lena,
Same here. I did not try college foreign language where we cannot access braille texts. For me braille was critical to learn a language due to the spelling and just having something to study with. I took spanish a few years in high school. Like you I just wrote out my homework/tests in braille and my teacher of the vision impaired would ink print over my writing. Much easier than messing with a computer.
But if you have to know, I think your teacher of the vision impaired, TVI, should have taught you.
Have you asked other classmates. After all, they need the same commands to type their accented letters.
You could try the internet. Finally, if you can’t find out, you could spend a little money on a book. There is a book from national braille press, NBP, that explains accents. On their website click on bookstore, then categories, then computers to find the book.

Honestly, I just did everything in Braille and had my teacher overwrite everything. I used my notetaker and embossed from there and gave the documents to my teacher. It's a lot easier than the crazy alt codes I'd have to use to put in accents on the computer. Maybe some people find that easier, but I don't.

Subject: [nabs] Spanish class
Hello All,
I am a new member to this list. I am currently in my first year of high school, and taking Spanish 1. I am having a bit of a problem with the computer end of Spanish. For those of you that have taken any high school Spanish classes, can you please let me know how you made sure that you heard and wrote the Spanish characters correctly? My worksheets and text books are in Braille, but I need to make sure that when I am on a website for class or looking at an email that contains Spanish characters I hear that in Spanish. I've figured out that if it has any of the Spanish accent marks in the word it will be heard in Spanish, but if not it will be pronounced like an English word. E.G, Hola is pronounced as Ho La, not O la. Also, I need to be able to type all the accented characters necessary for Spanish. I've looked through various manuals but haven't found the perfect solution yet. I am using a Macbook with the latest version of Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard with Voice Over bootcamped with Windows XP Pro SP3 with JFW 12 latest build. I also use a Braille Plus Mobile Manager from APH with the QWERTY docking station but I am pretty sure I will have to use the Macbook for this class. I have no problem using either Windows or Mac for this class, it is just essential that I can both correctly hear and type in Spanish for my tests, quizzes, and homework.
Please let me know how you did this in your Spanish classes.
Thanks!
Chase Crispin
