[nabs] reflections on tragedy

Sara,
So you were younger than me. On 9/11 I was a senior and I was 17.
I remember it being early morning after break and going into second period and hearing the news. It was scary. But I felt safe; I was in school after all and as a youth, I did not follow news and politics as I do now.
It really did not hit me until much later what a tragedy it was. Yes our nation was changed forever; new security measures came about and we will always have a heightened security due to the attack. A controversial law, the patriot act, was also passed in congress and it gave the government more leeway to search citizens’ private records.  

Anyway, I hope all are safe. I watched the kennedy’s center 911 concert tonight and it was good but sad. Obama spoke there as well.

Isn't it amazing how our world changed in just a few hours ten years ago? I recall sitting in my fifthgrade art class just after the first plane hit. We saw live coverage of the second. Amazing how it feels so long ago and yet so close to our hearts. I thank God for the men and woman who fight to keep us safe, and certainly those who lost their lives. Blessings to all on this day of remembrance. While we have much to grieve and fear, we also have a freedom that we must celebrate.

  Some pray in churches, others are going to public memorials today and still others will do volunteer service to serve the country. If you are doing anything different or special, I hope it goes well for you.
