Below is information on an event that ACB is cosponsoring to raise
awareness of the importance of Medicaid. If you live in the dC area
please attend if at all possible. A high turnout is critical!
Eric
Capitol Hill Washington,
DC September 21st at Noon
Background
In the discussions about the deficit and need to control federal
spending, the conversation has focused on the cost of Medicaid. However,
few people in the general public understand what Medicaid actually is or
the impact that this federal funding stream has on the lives of people
with disabilities, seniors, their families and those that work to
support them.
Over 40 national disability, aging, labor, religious, and civil rights
organizations have banded together to organize a national rally on
Capitol Hill to highlight the importance of Medicaid and show Congress
that My Medicaid Matters!
This rally will highlight that:
* Medicaid provides vital home and community-based services that
allow seniors and younger people with disabilities to live
independently in the community;
* Medicaid provides services that support families in caring for
their children who have significant disabilities; and
* Medicaid provides vital jobs for direct care workers who support
their families.
Arbitrary cuts to Medicaid will result in the loss of home and
community-based services that allow people to live independently,
reductions in medical care as well as lost jobs of direct care workers.
The rally will begin at noon on September 21stand will kick off
organizing efforts in all 50 states to show that My Medicaid Matters!
Join Us!!!
The rally will begin at noon on the west side of the Capitol. Dress
appropriately for the weather. Bring some water and a snack. Don't
forget to bring your enthusiasm!
After the rally, we are asking that folks take visit Congress to bring
our message to them and let them know that My Medicaid Matters! You can
schedule your visits after 3:30 PM or just drop in. Help us show that
My Medicaid Matters!
