Blankalso, when was the last time you reformatted?
if you have been using the original install of windows all four years, overtime the computer will slow down.
also, how much RAM is in the computer?

      Rhonda,

My first computer was a HP Compaq, but the last two I've purchased have been Toshiba Satellite Pro models, and they've been very reliable. The battery life is good, and I've never purchased a replacement battery. I also try to use AC power as often as possible. The only common problem I've seen with those (from friends who own satellite pro models) is that the power jack gets loosened and subsequently broken if you're not careful. I agree with Tyler though that it never hurts to throw in a few extra bucks for a service agreement while you're at it.

The one I purchased this past June weighs about 5 pounds I believe, give or take a few ounces. If you're looking for a desktop replacement, perhaps one of the bigger and more powerful laptops is something you should look at. Depends whether you want a desktop replacement or more portability, though in my experience you don't have to necessarily sacrifice one to have the other with the Satellite Pro models from Toshiba.

  HTH,
  Laura

Remember to do a disk clean up and defrag it. Maybe that will speed it up.

Thanks everyone for the great advice.....my computer which is a dell is a desktop that I've had for about four years. Lately, it's acting really slow and locks up sometimes and needs to be restarted. It has no virisus so I figure it's just getting old!!!!

Well, I am a Dell lap top user and love it alot. It is a full size with num pad and a 17.5 in screen which means that it is somewhat heavy. I also just bought a Toshiba and like it as well-almost *smile*. Honestly, I am one of those blind people that takes a bit of warming up in order to "like" change. I am still trying to figure out where thing are on the new lap top so I don't use it as often. The toshiba also has a num pad and I like it because it loads fast...but then again, I don't have too many programs running on it either.
Sorry, I probably wasn't much help

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. Toshiba Satellites are also good. If you're looking for something smaller, go with the model that doesn't have the number pad. They're smaller and a bit lighter than the ones with the number pad. Stay away from Dell and HP. Of course, that's just my opinion. Somebody else might have good things to say about Dell or HP.

        Ronda:
If you are looking for something light weight, Lenovo has a thinkpad x220 you could check out. I know someone that has it and they love it. Toshiba Tekra's re also good, though if you go with Toshiba be sure to get the express warranty, otherwise your system goes off to the depot to get repaired where I think they throw it a few times after they "fix it." or something. I had to send my laptop in 5 times in a row to fix stuff they kept breaking after the first time.
