Hey Lizzy,
Welcome to the list!! We're so glad to have you! My name is Rose. I'm the
secretary of ACBS, and also the committee chair for networking/outreach. I'm
not going to repeat what everyone else said, but I will say definitely take
advantage of the list. You can learn so much and get to know some great
people. Ask questions, and get involved.
I saw that you live an hour outside of Philly. This is very exciting because
I'm originally from Northeast Philly, and go to Saint Joe's University which
is right outside of Philly. I'm a sophomore English major minoring in
Marketing and Communications. I was very involved in high school--I managed
our girls soccer and lacrosse teams, I did a lot of community service, I
wrote for our school newspaper and yearbook, and a lot of other stuff. In
college, I'm involved in similar things. I also play on the BSO (Blind
Sports Organization)'s women's goalball team. We practice every other week
at the Overbrook School for the Blind in Philly. I'm involved with the
Philadelphia regional chapter of PCB as well, and we're looking in to
starting a Student affiliate here. We'd love to have you for either of
these!
Lastly, I'll comment on the guide dog thing. I got my 1st dog, Star, at the
end of June from the Seeing Eye. She's a little yellow lab, and she's great.
Unfortunately, Star developed some issues with working, and had to retire in
December. It's been really hard, but TSE has been amazing. Her retiring had
nothing to do with me, or with TSE-some dogs just decide guiding isn't for
them. TSE has made sure I understood this, and have been extremely
supportive. I'm going back for a 2nd dog in May, and am literally counting
down the days to the new pup, and going back to TSE.

Wow! Thank you all so much.  I am definitely interested in 
writing for the newsletter and helping out on committees.  I read 
the survey on Gdui, but I wasn't sure about it since it was from 
2006.  I'm guessing everything is basically the same though.  Oh, 
and keep the responses coming about things to do for the blind as 
I will have little to do when the musical is over and the school 
year comes to an end.  Homework, clubs, sports and extra 
curriculars at school are basically my life so when it all ends I 
get pretty bored.  I have a while but I like to think ahead ;) I 
live in Pennsylvania about an hour from Philly by the way.
