Please read this message carefully.  

 

A couple of months ago a meeting was held at the State Capitol with
Representative Anastasia Pitman to discuss very important issues relative to
the education of blind or visually impaired students in Oklahoma.  

 

Some of these issues included testing accommodations , lack of higher
education programs  in the field of vision rehabilitation and the need for
an INCREASE in funding  for the AIM center which provides materials
including Braille and large print textbooks, as well as instructional aids
and equipment. 

 

Meeting attendees included representatives from New View Oklahoma, the
Division of Visual Services in the Department of Rehabilitation Services,
the Oklahoma School for the Blind, the Oklahoma Library for the Blind and
Physically Handicapped and its Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM)
Center, the State Department of Education, blind students, parents of blind
students, teachers of blind or visually impaired students, etc.

10:15-11:30 OPEN FLOOR Parents and students will be given first priority to
share their experiences.  

11:30-12:30 Lunch provided (get to know those who are working to achieve the
same results.)

12:30-2:30 Divide and conquer-(Break into smaller groups to discuss issues
and make suggestions on how to achieve the desired result.

help!
