Subject: [oregon-l] A blind person in need

Hello everyone, For those of you who attended our May chapter meeting, will remember me mentioning this gentleman who I have contacted who is in greaat need of a lot of assistance. I will be donating a stereo and shopping cart, possibly a television entertainment center if it's not too big and some other things. Elders in Action and I are working on getting him into new temporary or permanent housing. I am also helping him get flea and heartworm medicine and shots for his guide dog. Elders in action has arranged for delivery of a few days supply of food for Allen. I have arranged for some advocacy for him with Elders in action and Adult Protective Services, but Elders in Action and I are the only ones doing the footwork that I am aware of. Allen lives in an apartment complex that houses gang members and some skin heads and has been robbed and harrassed. His rent payment leaves him $40 per month to live on. The volunteer from Elders in action and I will be representing him in a HUD housing hearing about June 9.

Donations needed: Allen needs a Toaster oven, can opener, medium sized frying pan, cooking pots, preferably unbreakable dinner plates and saucers, cooking bowls, drinking tumbler glasses, butcher knife, potato peeler, stirring spoon, eating utensils, steak knives, 2 end tables and lamps and coffee table, a better bed and sheets, pillow cases and pillow, quilt, blankets, sweater, jeans 36 inch waist and 29 length and dress pants 36 by 29, light jacket, winter coat, gloves, undershirts and boxer shorts and long johns, clothes hamper, laundry basket, full dinette set, anti slip mat for the bath tub, bath towels, wash cloths and hand towels, talking scale, talking watch, talking clock, dog bed and nila bone, cooking utensils except spatchela, cloth rags and towels for clean up,air conditioner or fan, white cane with roller wheel, stereo, television and needs a converter box, light weight dresser, Upright Vacuum cleaner preferrably doesn't use bags and cleaning supplies and possibly vacuum bags with a vacuum cleaner, footlockers, small lamp, wire clothes hangers, baseball caps, sunglasses, drinking cups, Straw broom and mop bucket, dustpan and 2 lawn chairs, the following spices: celery seed, garlic powder, paprika, lemon pepper, canned goods. Moving money for moving truck and a cash deposit.

If you can donate any of these items, please let me know. I will seek resources in the community that can help reduce this list. The gentleman from Elders in Action has been to Allen's apartment and has seen how scarce things are.

If you know of reliable agencies that regularly help in situations like this, please let me know also. Thanks.

Gregg Welch, Multnomah Chapter of ACB of Oregon
