Directly ahead, a bronze money tree?s long, curving leaves resemble metallic lace. A delicately wrought bird perches in the tree?s crown. Tiny Buddhas meditate along its trunk, which is mounted on the shoulders of a horned beast set atop a lion-like beast. As its powers radiate outward to where you stand, the money tree brings never-ending life and wealth. Behind the money tree an Earth Spirit carved in lacquered wood stands guard. Endowed with the head and body of a dragon and the antlers of a stag, it uses the powers of both dragon and stag to protect you from harm and to open your way to the spirit world. At the side of the room stand two massive, cast bronze objects ? a hu and a nau. The hu is a wine vessel used in daily ritual sacrifices to the sacred ancestors. Its surface is covered with delicately inscribed dragons, elephants and birds which surround a frightening taotie mask. The nau is a large bell struck like a gong during religious rituals to drive away evil spirits. Together they will help you fulfill your obligations to the powers that rule the spirit world. Money tree, Earth Spirit, hu and nao were placed in Chinese tombs thousands of years ago to ensure the well-being of the tomb?s occupants. Considered to be among the Portland Art Museum?s most important treasures, they have been brought together in a special exhibit titled ?Cornerstones of a Great Civilization: Masterworks of Ancient Chinese Art.? You are invited to participate in a guided tour of the exhibit on Thursday, June 21. The tour starts at 2:30 p.m. and lasts for an hour. Attendees meet a few minutes before 2:30 at the main entrance of the museum, at 1219 SW Park Avenue. Those with walkers or wheelchairs can use the ramp that leads to the members? entrance on the north side of the museum building. Docents escort attendees to the gallery and provide seating during presentations. The museum recently instituted a reduced admission fee of $3.00 for non-members attending tours for the blind and partially-visioned. Students are admitted free, as are adults assisting blind attendees. Guide dogs are allowed in the museum. To sign up for the June 21 tour, or for more information, contact docent Sylvia Lurie, shlurie at spiritone.com, 503-235-8738. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The press release is available here: http://lflegal.com/2012/06/walmart-prescription/ This is the first time in the United States that a national retailer has offered Talking Prescription labels to the blind community on a national basis. We are also working with the other national pharmacies on these issues. Message-ID: <3568573688574EA7898D0DC98B44D925@ilr.local> mer Games, blind ultra-runner Simon Wheatcroft will carry the Olympic Flame running solo -- with only the guidance of his iPhone. Chosen to be a torchbearer at the 2012 Summer Games, blind ultra-runner Simon Wheatcroft will carry the Olympic Flame running solo -- with only the guidance of his iPhone. ?If you had asked me three years ago if training alone was possible while being blind I would have said no," Wheatcroft told FoxNews.com. "Now I do it and ... I realize perhaps a lot of things are possible.? The RunKeeper app uses the GPS tracker in the iPhone to track your runs, including duration, distance, pace, calories burned, and path traveled on a map. The app reads your current stats over your headphones as you run, and the virtual coach warns if you are ahead or behind pace. ?This allowed me to match distances with markers on my route. So I would pair a dip before a turn with a distance marker from RunKeeper," Wheatcroft explained. 'He's truly an inspiration -- we're huge fans.' - Jason Jacobs, RunKeeper developer Blind by the age of 17, the 30-year-old from the UK undertook the challenge of learning to run outdoors alone after he lost his guide runner to a distant college. Only able to make out shadows, running on an open road and blindness seem like a pretty dangerous mix. But luckily Wheatcroft hasn?t hit or been hit by any colossal hardfalls, saying there were only ?a few accidents along the way including running into posts that RunKeeper just couldn?t help me with.? ?We had no idea when we built the app that it could be used by a blind person," Jason Jacobs, RunKeeper developer told FoxNews.com. "He's truly an inspiration -- we're huge fans of him and what he has been able to accomplish.? Wheatcroft primarily sticks to the same six-mile loop he has memorized, running always with a gait that keeps his feet very close to the ground. But he has no worries about navigating the Olympic path on June 26, 2012. ?It's a very simple road route, so I could easily learn this route by running it once,? he said. Family, friends, and supporters will be there to cheer Wheatcroft on as he makes the inspiring journey through the small English village?and thanks to the RunKeeper app, anyone can join in the excitement by tracking his run using the ?watch live? function. This real-time map locater also lets his wife and friends keep tabs while he is out running alone. The torchbearer is currently earning a psychology degree at Sheffield University, and says it was his belief in himself and confidence achieved through running on his own that prompted him to begin competing professionally in ultra distance running. ?Belief in yourself gets you a long way. Don?t achieve what someone believes you are capable of, achieve what you believe you are capable of,? he said. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. The shortfall stems from the slow economic recovery, potential cuts in federal operating funds and the unresolved union contract. The budget includes internal efficiencies and layoffs, elimination of the Free Rail Zone and creating a flat fare system, bus service cuts, as well as adding trips to 7 bus lines to alleviate overcrowding, adjusting LIFT paratransit boundaries to match nearby fixed-route service operating hours.
