Jeff,
I wear a BTE in each ear. They are very powerful. In fact, the volume could go up, but it wouldn't help. Give or take a frequency, I gather it could be said that in my left ear I have about 10% with no discrimination. In my right ear, with good descrimination, I have about 20% of my hearing. Now, let me say for everyone's sake, I know that hearing is not measured this way, but this the only way I know how to explain my hearing. I am lead to believe that the Ear Medical Group does not see any other blind individuals.

  i'm blind and as you late last year lost most of my hearing in my right ear,

  my other ear with hearing aid with a speech descrimination of about 28% 
  my doctor had no problem in giving me a ci, in fact if i wanted it he says i could do other ear also.

  what is the level of hearing in your good ear?

  i had implant in june and activated the end of
  july just a little over 2 months ago and it's fantastic.

    Hello Gals and Guys,
    Gee, Its good to be back with you good people. Due to my ear specialist doctor here in Austin not taking Medicare anymore, I was forced to see a doctor in San Antonio. Dr. Perry I understood was the top in his field of the treatment of Meniere's Disease, so I started seeing him. I found it extremely difficult to communicate with this man. He contradicted everything I told him, one being that I was loosing my hearing in my left ear. I am now seeing another doctor in his office who I feel I am communicating better with. Although my visit with Dr. King was not a positive one, it was nice to have someone confirm that I am not going crazy and I have indeed had loss a large amount of hearing in my left ear. On the down side, I now only hear noises in my left ear. Dr. King said that although I no longer can understand spoken words or can identify noises, I still have too much hearing for a CI. Because I am totally blind, isn't there a chance I could qualify for a CI at this point? Does anyone here know?
