[Sasi] another mapping

I just send this to my CI Journal.

Hello everyone,

I had a mapping last Tuesday. In the old days, things seemed to be, "We
can't help you, but we will test your hearing." Now, I could have said,
"Improve my hearing, and then, you can test it." I wouldn't do that, but
that is exactly what happened.

I noticed that my CI was turned off longer than usual. My audiologist
explained that a new software upgrade had been released. I asked how often
this happens. She said about every five years. I know that litle
modifications come out every so often, but I wondered what this major
upgrade would actually do. It did more than I expected.

My four programs have been completely changed. Program is autosensitivity
at the setting I have been using. The second is the same perogram at a
louder setting. The third is a combination of Autosensitivity and beam for
noisy settings. The fourth is a whole new version of Whisper that is
supposed to enhance high--pitched and soft speech, as well asmusic.

The bigest thing I noticed is that sibilants sound more natural. S's sound
like. The quality of sound is a bit more like what I was getting when I
used to call my left ear my sensitivity ear. Highs are crisp.

My pure tones were within normal limits. My sentence understanding was at
98%.

I found that when I went bowling yesterday, Program 3 really helped me not
to be overwhelmed by noise. Music on Program 4 is interesting. Definition
of instruments is better, though pitches still leave much to be desired. My
right ear will still have to unscramble that one.

I will go back in six months.
