[sasi] Is This True?

Hi Grandpa Dave,

You asked a very intelligent question. I'm no authority but I'll share a
little something I learned about recently.

There is a bone conduction aid now called the BAHA (bone attached hearing
aid). I've met two people who have them. One showed hers to me. She had a
brain tumor years ago and in removing the tumor, hearing was destroyed. The
BAHA is attached by drilling a small hole in the bone behind the ear in the
head (groan) where it is attached. It transmits vibrations and has changed
her life for the better.

Years ago when I was a student in deaf education, they had bone aids. The
type of aid used (bone or sensory) depends on the cause and type of hearing
loss.

I hope others have additional information. Grandpa, no question is stupid.
If we don't ask questions, we'll never learn things. Keep asking! Smile.

Ruth Silver
