[sasi] Definition on Deaf-Blind

Hello, Lynn.

I assume the definition is intended to acquaint not just those with both hearing and vision loss, but also some - like myself - wishing to better understand but who are not so afflicted - at least not yet. My only comment when trying to imagine both no bision and no hearing relates to the portion of the definition which says ". . . get information about the
environment".

Perhaps it would have more impact to read as follows: ". . . get information about the
environment and discern one's surroundings . . ."

So an admittedly longer definition would read as follows:
"Deaf-blind is a combination of hearing and vision loss that affects a
person’s ability to communicate with others, get information about the
environment and discern one's surroundings, participate in the community, and maintain independence."

Just a suggestion from back of the room.

  Subject: [sasi] Definition on Deaf-Blind

  Hello everyone, Lynn's here typing.

We need your help with your input and feedback. We, as well as myself, are trying to come up with the perfect definition on "Deaf-Blind" to be used for now on within our Deaf-Blind Community.

Based on Elizabeth Spiers suggestion, this is what we have so far:

Deaf-blind is a combination of hearing and vision loss that affects a person’s ability to communicate with others, get information about the environment, participate in the community, and maintain independence.

Please advise by the end of this week so the board can discuss this further.

Thanks so much for taking the time to consider this.

  ~Lynn
