[sasi] Definition on Deaf-Blind

Michelle,
I'm not sure I agree with the part about, "and maintain independence without hearing aids or assistive technology." That makes it sound like aids or assistive technology is the fix-it, or the cure, and that's not true. Even with aids and assistive technology I still have difficulty with communication or gathering enough information about my environment to be independent or at best, participate in social activities.

Hi, I think I'd ad this to the definition

Deaf-blind is a combination of hearing and vision loss that affects a person’s ability to communicate with others, get information about the environment,
participate in the community, and maintain independence without hearing aids or assistive technology.

    Hello everyone, Lynn's here typing.

We need your help with your input and feedback. We, as well as myself, are trying to come up with the perfect definition on "Deaf-Blind" to be used for now on within our Deaf-Blind Community.

Based on Elizabeth Spiers suggestion, this is what we have so far:

Deaf-blind is a combination of hearing and vision loss that affects a person’s ability to communicate with others, get information about the environment, participate in the community, and maintain independence.

Please advise by the end of this week so the board can discuss this further.

Thanks so much for taking the time to consider this.

    ~Lynn
