[sasi] transportation

Hi Phil,
In accordance with the federal regulations paratransit can give you up too
30 minutes that they will arrive. It depends on how your paratransit
calculates the service windoe-for example: Some locations say a 5:00 pm
window would last until 5:30 pm while others say the pickup time would be
5:00 pm and then your service window is calcaulated at 4:45 to 5:15 pm. You
can't have your cake and eat it to!!! So, say work ends at 5:00 pm and you
request a 5:00 pm window and your provider has the window ending at 5:30 you
have to wait. (If you were using fixed route buses and they were delayed you
would have to wait!!!) If your transit provider has a service window 15 min
before the time they give you until 15 min after then you leaving work at
5:00 would require you schedule your trip at 5:15 making your window 5:00 to
5:30.
If the bus arrives prior to your service window starting you are not
required to get on the bus. Usually, (but not all of the time) you have 5
minutes to get out and onto the bus. I would not recommend leaving work
early because of the way paratransit schedules-actually know someone who did
that and they eneded up loseing the job.

Hi folks: Speaking of transportation I began using paratransit about four
months ago. In the beginning I would schedule a 5 pm pickup each afternoon.
The paratransit drivers here in Atlanta have a 30-minute time frame in which
to make that pickup. More often than not my bus would show either at the
last part of that time frame or several minutes after. After a couple of
months of that I began requesting a 4-45 pickup. And now they are either
coming at 4-45 or even a little before. So how do you explain that? Not
complaining. I lik it! But it does seem a little odd. Phil Jones

Cheryl,
I know what you mean.
I used our paratransit once, and the driver was from Pakistan and didn't
know the country. Thus, he showed up late. I didn't use it again for over
a year. When I was attending a church conference and really, I was told
that my name was taken off the list because of non-use. I had to start the
whole process all over again. I may have periods of non-use, but I make
sure that doesn't happen again. I needed a hearing aid cleaning and tube
change. I couldn't couldn't get an appointment dujring the late afternoon,
so I took the late one and took paratransit. It took longer, but I brought
something to read.
