Becky,

The worst intersections are very rounded.   In one case, I actually have 
found a work-around.  There is a street  in front of a school.  I literally 
drop the harness and heel Quattro, using the cane.  There is a grating, and 
when I get past it, I heel Quattro back to the intersection and curb cut.  I 
then pick up the harness and work him again.  It is a bit clumsy, but it 
works.  One driveway is just as rounded but doesn't have the grating and if 
I go too far, I end up in a parking lot.
