"Win Friends and Influence People"
                       November 11 - 13, 2005 ~ Greenwood, SC

PURPOSE

The purpose of the American Council of the Blind of South Carolina is to strive for the betterment of our total community:

·        Through a representative state organization primarily of blind people

·        Providing a forum for a view of the blind from all parts of the state and from all walks of life

·        By elevating the social, economic and cultural level of the blind

·        By improving educational and rehabilitation facilities

·        By broadening vocational opportunities

·        By encouraging and assisting the blind, especially the newly blind, to develop their abilities and potentialities and to assume their responsible places in the community

·        By cooperating with the public and private institutions and agencies of and for the blind

·        By providing for the free exchange of ideas, opinions, and information relevant to the concerns of blind people through publication of a newsletter

·        By conducting a program of public education aimed toward improved understanding of the problems of blindness and of the capabilities of blind people.

Annual Convention

The American Council of the Blind of South Carolina is a non profit organization since October 1977 and has maintained incorporated status with no additional codes.  The American Council of the Blind of South Carolina (ACBofSC) and its chapters strive to improve the well-being of all blind and visually impaired persons by holding annual conventions to include hands-on activities, entertainment, panel discussions and bring together different people to preside over the various program activities that are experts in low vision living.  The natural sources of variety are in keeping the audience alert, curious and anticipating what comes next.
