There are many wonderful Internet sites for the blind and visually impaired.  Here are just a few of them.  The first three are veteran’s links.  Organizations that are engaged in full time efforts to bring about change in all aspects of blind and visually impaired veterans’ lives. 

 Blinded Veterans Association – First national organization devoted to the needs of blinded veterans.  Strong legislative watchdogs and shadow of the Veterans Administration actions regarding blinded veterans and their healthcare needs.  Go to link:  http://www.bva.org/index.html

Blinded American Veterans Foundation -  Strong foundation supporting veterans needs and issues nation-wide through a journalistic forum in the Washington Post each week.  Read Sgt. Shaft’s column each week at:  http://www.bavf.org/

Visually Impaired Veterans of America – supports veteran’s issues through advocacy of rights and needs of all citizens with vision loss.  Go to link:  http://www.acbmaine.org/VIVA.html

American Council of the Blind – Large national organization with growth and direction toward accessibility and independence for all people with vision loss.  Wonderful newsletter with interesting and current articles on technology, transportation, education, politics, nostalgia, disability and legal issues in today’s world.  To go to website:  http://www.acb.org/index.html

Recording for the Blind & Physically Handicapped – Academic recordings of textbooks and recorded texts that are not typically found in the standard library systems.  Requires an annual fee.  Tremendous asset for students and academics.  Read more on their website at:  http://www.libraryblind.com/

American Printing House – Information, products, large resource of almost anything that a person with vision loss may use.  See more at:   http://www.aph.org/
