2016 TCB Annual State Convention

Our 2016 state convention will take place from September 9 through 11 at the Fall Creek Falls state park. This is a new way of doing things for us and we are looking forward to it. The hotel has a restaurant and a swimming pool, and the park has many hiking trails.

The phone numbers for the hotel are: 800-250-8610 and (local) 423-881-5241. Please make your reservations as soon as you can as there will be a folk music festival that weekend and the hotel will be full. The hotel rate is $89.32 per night including taxes for two occupants, and $10 for each extra person in the room.

Please note that this is an election year. Bobby Cowan is chairman of the nominating committee. If you wish to run for office, please notify Bobby or your chapter representative to the committee. All officers are up for election.

Carol Francisco and Peggy Ivie chair the awards committee. Please submit your nominees for the Dave L. Day award or the Helen Wild award to your chapter representative. The Dave L. Day award is given to a sighted volunteer. This person does not necessarily have to be a chapter member. The Helen Wild award goes to a visually impaired member who has been of service to the blindness community and is a good role model for the community. The committee needs your suggestions in writing by about August 10 so we can vote by conference call and get the trophies made. My email is

Bobby Cowan will conduct the Sunday devotional. Please notify him about any members who have passed away since we last met.

Our lunch will be a choice of ham and cheese or turkey croissant, with a drink, potato chips, fruit, pickle, and a brownie or cookie. Lunch will cost $10. The banquet will include pork roast, potato, salad, bread, vegetables, coffee or tea, and dessert. The banquet will cost $16. The restaurant has a breakfast buffet and a Friday night buffet for supper.

Convention registration will begin at 4:00 on Friday afternoon. We have to do things a little differently this year because of hotel rules. There will be no Friday night entertainment because we need to leave the room at 10 p.m. Therefore, the auction will begin on Friday night at about 7 p.m. and continue after the banquet. Please bring new or gently used items for the auction and also for door prizes. Mark your items for door prize or auction and place them on the correct table so the auction committee can organize them.

Again this year, Dan and Leslie Spoone of Orlando, Florida, will be joining us and Dan will speak at the banquet.

TCB has been in existence for 75 years, so this is our diamond jubilee. Some of our long-term members will discuss this history and share our memories with you. I hope our newer members will find this informative and the rest of us will enjoy remembering “the good old days.”

The address of the park is: 2536 Lakeside Drive, Spencer, Tn. 38585

From Chattanooga: Take Route 111 to Route 284.This will take you to the park. Upon entering the park follow the signs to the lodge.

From Nashville: Take Route 40E to Cookeville and Turn Right onto Route 111 (to Spencer) Turn left onto Route 30. Then turn Right onto Route 284. This will take you to the park. After entering the park follow the sign to the lodge.

From Knoxville: Take Route 40W and Turn left at the Crossville Exit #322(Route 101). Turn Right onto Route 30 then Turn Left onto Route 284. This will take you to the park. After entering the park, follow the signs to the lodge.

Convention registration is $15. As noted, the lunch is $10 and the banquet is $16. Please mail your check with the correct amount and your choice for lunch to our treasurer, Michael Fulghum. The hotel needs to know how many sandwiches to prepare and how many of us will attend the banquet. We have no way of registering on line or receiving payments via the internet, so please send your checks by August 15 at the latest.

Check must be made payable to TCB and checks must be mailed to:

We appreciate all the hard work being done by our Crossville chapter. The convention is a great time to learn new things, make new friends and visit with old friends. I hope to see many of you there.

    Disability Days on the Hill

Save the date for Disability Days on the Hill (DDH) 2012. TCB will once again be sending a group of delegates to this very important event. By participating, TCB delegates helped establish the disability community with our legislators. This is your opportunity to hobnob with state legislators at the Capitol and talk about issues important to you, your family, and your Chapter.
