VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME

There are many ways you can help the UCB. Below are some ideas!

Drive for One or More Individuals

One stressor you can help alleviate for a person with a vision impairment is that of getting to appointments or doing some shopping.

Driving for Organizational Activities

The organization regularly holds activities, and some persons have problems finding a way to these activities. For example, a choir is meeting on a weekly basis on a weekday evening, and assistance with transportation would be of great help!

Read to Individuals Persons with Vision Impairment

Another service you could help with would be to read mail to a person who can't read it for himself. Or you might be able to assist with reading instructions. Modern life is filled with the need to read what seems to be quite voluminous amounts of material, and having someone to catch you up with all of that reading si a significant help!

Proofread Materials to be Brailled

The UCB puts many materials into alternate formats. Unfortunately, when printed materials are scanned into a computer, there are often many little fixes which need to be made. There are many reasons for these mistranslations including: the style of letters used in the printed materials, the lower quality of printed materials, or even that the scanning program doesn't correctly arrange materials which are printed in columns. Assistance with proofreading these materials before they are translated into braille would be greatly appreciated! But remember, it takes a very detail oriented person who has the time to focus on each project.
