ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY INSTRUCTOR

ABVI-Goodwill is currently seeking a person-centered, professional, and flexible individual for our full-time Orientation and Mobility Instructor position.

The Orientation and Mobility Instructor provides community-based instruction across a variety of environments; conducts assessments and provides individualized instruction, enabling people served to function as safely and independently as possible.

Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities for this position include:
●Work with other Vision Rehabilitation staff to maximize the safe and independent functioning of each person served;
●Evaluate conceptual development and functional skills across sensory areas (visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic, etc.);
●Uses functional assessments to develop Individualized Service Plans with input from the individual being served;
●Maintains detailed and timely documentation to comply with contract requirements and agency procedures;
●Relates to the individuals being served in a manner that acknowledges the value and dignity of each individual;
●Fosters effective and professional communication (both oral and written) within ABVI-Goodwill and the community;
●Provides presentations to community members and professional audiences;
●Participates in department and agency meetings.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. National professional certification required, or eligibility to obtain certification within first 3 months of employment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required; as is the ability to adapt teaching style to the individual needs of a diverse caseload.

Must demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to the ever-changing conditions of a dynamic work environment, and have the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks in an effective manner.

Strong knowledge and comfort with Microsoft Office suite (particularly Word, Excel and Outlook).

Reliable transportation required as services are provided across multiple counties within the Finger Lakes region of Western New York State.

Location: Rochester, NY – and travel within 7 county area
