1. Greetings fellow ACB Members: I am Michael Garrett from the sprawling metropolis of Missouri City, Texas.  We are just southwest of another city you might be familiar with, Houston.

For the past two years, I have served as your Treasurer.  I am seeking another two year term to continue serving you in this important office and I ask for your support!

When I initially sought this position, I expressed to you my passion for ACB and shared with you my 28 years of banking and finance experience.  My passion for ACB, its mission and its goals remains intact.  In fact, given the current state of our environment and as ACB evolves, I feel even stronger that we can play a significant role in speaking to the issues that impact those of us who live with vision loss.

The board and the staff are comprised of individuals who take their duties and responsibilities seriously.  I want the opportunity to continue serving with this select group as, I believe, we have much more work to do.

2. My strongest contributions to ACB lie in the fact that I have served in a number of capacities locally, statewide and nationally.  In my local chapter, I’ve held every officer position except Treasurer, currently serving as its Secretary.  Statewide, I’ve been associated with the board in some capacity for over 20 years, reaching the office of First Vice President.  I’ve chaired a number of committees both for the affiliate and our state special interest affiliates.  Nationally, I serve as your chairman of the ACBES thrift store board and serve on several other committees primarily related to the finances of ACB. Participating in a variety of committees has not only helped me gain versatility, but most important, it shows my willingness to serve.

3. I believe the most important challenges facing ACB include: developing a new generation of energetic, passionate leaders who will continue to carry the torch for equality of opportunity and improved quality of life for all people who are blind or low vision; continuing to build a strong financial base for the organization, so that when we have more, we can do more; and to assure our members that the board hears their voices and is “working together for a bright future!”
