1. Please introduce yourself, indicate the position you are seeking, and explain why you are interested in serving in this role.
My name is Jeff Bishop, and I am seeking election to the Board of Publications. I am interested in serving because ACB’s publications are more than information channels; they are a record of who we are, a bridge to members, and a doorway for people who are just finding our community.
2. What do you consider your strongest contribution to ACB at the national, state, special-interest affiliate, or local chapter level? Please explain why you view this as your most significant contribution.
My strongest contribution to ACB has been helping strengthen how we communicate, teach, and connect people with meaningful opportunities. I have been honored to lead presentations for ACB Communicators, help shape and support Project GLOW, and serve as an active part of the Board of Publications as it considers direction, accessibility, member engagement, and the future of ACB’s communications. I have also contributed through BITS, but my larger focus has always been on helping ACB communicate clearly, welcome people warmly, and give members practical tools they can use in daily life. I view this as my most significant contribution because information becomes powerful when it is understandable, accessible, and connected to real people.
3. In your view, what is the most important challenge currently facing ACB? How would you work to help address this challenge if elected?
One of ACB’s most important challenges is keeping members informed, engaged, and connected across generations, geography, technology comfort levels, and communication preferences. If elected, I would support clear, timely, accessible, and respectful publications that meet members where they are while preserving ACB’s history and values.
4. What do you see as the most pressing issues facing the blindness community we serve, and how would you work to advance meaningful change in this organization?
The blindness community faces urgent issues around digital accessibility, artificial intelligence, employment, education, transportation, aging, and equal access to information. ACB must continue to be a trusted voice while also inviting more people to participate. I would work to advance meaningful change by supporting publications that are accessible, welcoming, practical, and mission-driven; that highlight member stories; that explain complex issues plainly; and that encourage action. My goal would be to help ACB communicate not only what we oppose, but what we are building together.
