  • American Council of the Blind Responds to Federal Action Weakening Randolph-Sheppard Act Priority: Alexandria, VA. -The American Council of the Blind (ACB) strongly opposes recent federal action that limits how the Randolph-Sheppard Act’s long-standing priority for blind vendors is applied to Army dining facility contracts. This change threatens a proven pathway to economic opportunity for people who are blind or have low vision.
  • Bookshare Membership Offer for American Council of the Blind Members: Bookshare is honored to announce a membership offer for American Council of the Blind members. First-time Bookshare members can join Bookshare for 30% off an annual membership. Existing Bookshare members can renew for 20% off their annual membership. Bookshare is FREE for ACB members who are students (includes all ages and levels, from elementary to college).
  • I am blind. Self-driving cars like Waymo give people like me independence: Letter to the Editor by Claire Stanley, published in the Washington Post on December 15, 2025. For most people in D.C., hailing a ride is a mundane act. You tap a few buttons, wait a few minutes, get in and go. It is an extremely convenient way to get door to door when other options aren’t the right fit. For those of us who are blind or have low vision, that same routine is a source of profound anxiety because of uncertainty that I will be accepted by the driver.

  • ACB’s 2025 Audio Description Awards Gala Celebrates Innovation, Inclusion, and Creativity in Media: Alexandria, Va. — The American Council of the Blind (ACB) and its Audio Description Project (ADP) invite audiences everywhere to experience the 5th Annual Audio Description Awards Gala, airing Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. ET — a star-studded celebration honoring excellence and innovation in audio description across popular entertainment, education, gaming, live events, and more.

  • Recognizing White Cane Safety Day: Celebrating Independence and Accessibility: October 15, 2025— Each year on October 15, the American Council of the Blind (ACB) proudly joins people and organizations around the world in recognizing White Cane Safety Day. This day honors the achievements of people who are blind or have low vision and celebrates the white cane as a powerful symbol of independence. The white cane not only empowers individuals to travel safely and confidently but also serves as a reminder of the importance of accessible environments and public awareness.
  • American Council of the Blind Celebrates the 15th Anniversary of the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act: Alexandria, Va., October 8, 2025— The American Council of the Blind (ACB) proudly celebrates the 15th anniversary of the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA). Signed into law by President Barack Obama on October 8, 2010, the CVAA remains one of the most significant legislative achievements for people who are blind, have low vision, or are DeafBlind in the digital age.

  •  BITS, Microsoft, and the American Council of the Blind Launch Groundbreaking Accessibility Partnership: TUCSON, AZ, September 05, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Blind Information Technology Specialists (BITS), an affiliate of the American Council of the Blind (ACB), is proud to announce a landmark nine-month partnership with Microsoft Corporation. This initiative will empower BITS members to directly influence the future of accessibility across Microsoft Narrator and M365 apps such as Word and Outlook — ensuring technology continues to break down barriers and open doors for people who are blind or have low vision.

  • American Council of the Blind Announces 2025 Scholarship Recipients: Alexandria, Va., June 2, 2025 — The American Council of the Blind (ACB), in partnership with the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), is proud to announce the 2025 recipients of its national scholarship program. This year, 24 students who are legally blind from across the United States have been awarded scholarships totaling over $111,400 to support their post-secondary education.

  • American Council of the Blind Endorses Legislation to Improve Early Childhood Vision Services: Alexandria, Va., May 29, 2025 — The American Council of the Blind (ACB) announces its support for two critical pieces of legislation aimed at strengthening early detection and intervention for children with vision impairments: H.R. 3541, the See the Board Act, and H.R. 2527, the Early Detection of Vision Impairments (EDVI) Act. These bipartisan efforts represent vital steps toward ensuring that all children have access to timely, appropriate vision screenings and services
  • ACB Opens Registration for the 2025 Conference and Convention: Alexandria, Va., May 29, 2025 — The American Council of the Blind (ACB) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for its 2025 Conference and Convention, taking place June 23 to July 11, with the in-person portion scheduled for July 4–11 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
  • ACB Recognizes Global Accessibility Awareness Day: Alexandria, Va., May 15, 2025 — The American Council of the Blind (ACB) proudly celebrates Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)—a worldwide day of recognition and action to promote inclusive design and equal access for people with disabilities.

  • American Council of the Blind Launches New Accessibility and Training Services Program: Program area will advance equal access for people who are blind or have low vision Alexandria, Va., February 12, 2025 – The American Council of the Blind (ACB), a national membership-driven organization with 8,000 members and 65 affiliates, announces the launch of its Accessibility and Training Services program to promote equal access and greater inclusion for people who are blind or have low vision.
