Responding to an Administrative RFI

Under the new administration, President Trump is working to carry out numerous deregulatory actions. On May 14, a request for information (RFI) was published in the Federal Register inquiring about what regulations under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) should be eliminated. It can be found at https://www.regulations.gov/document/AHRQ-2025-0001-0001.

The advocacy community is using this as an opportunity to roll back a regulation that hurts the low vision community. A coalition of blindness advocacy groups are submitting comments that will urge HHS to eliminate the low vision aid exclusion. This exclusion, discussed at many past D.C. Leadership Conferences, allows Medicare to not cover low vision aids. ACB signed onto a similar comment to the executive branch not long ago making the same argument to use the deregulatory process to help push for the rights of the blind and low vision community.
